Russia was the first to conquer space exploration. It was the first to build a nuclear power station. It was also the first to introduce the first ever nuclear-powered icebreaker. We are the pioneers of many things, including numismatics. Nicholas I’s grandson and a member of the Romanov dynasty, Grand Duke Gregory Mikhailovich introduced to the world the first numismatic compilation which offered a detailed account of the Russian numismatic tradition and set the foundation for a coin grading system dating back to Peter the Great. Effectively, he created Mendeleev’s periodic table of the numismatics world which is still commonly used around the world.
