When asked about the most well-known Russian coin, most collectors agree that it was indeed the so-called Constantine ruble. A remarkable symbol of the early 19th-century succession crisis, the coin only had nine copies in total which, for quite a while, have been mysteriously removed from all historical and numismatic communities. In spring 2021, one of the Constantine rubles was brought back to Russia — a truly landmark event for the Russian historical heritage — which can now be seen not just at the State Hermitage Museum but also as part of the private collection open to the general public.
